St. Michael's and All Angels Church, Copford Green, Essex, England

×
Colchester, Essex.
Copford Green Church.
This church dates from about 1130 and the walls contain substantial amounts of Roman and Medieval brick. Most of the south wall, seen here, dates from the 14th century apart from a small fragment of the early 12th century chapel of the bishops of London.

The semi-circular apse is probably the least altered part of the original building and dates from 1130. It is divided by two buttresses into three bays each with a round-headed window.

This view is from next to the Apse, part of which can be seen at the right of the picture, and at the west end is the late 14th to early-15th century oak-shingled belfry with its broach spire.
