The Guidhall, Hadleigh, Suffolk, England
This is the interior of the Guildhall showing the crownpost roof construction with each vertical crownpost having a moulded base and a further moulding at the top - the Capital.
Hadleigh had five guilds with feasts taking place regularly and part of the original, detached, kitchen still survives in the garden.

This shows one of the vertical Crownposts with the mouldings and top braces being easily visible.
There is a very interesting, and inexpensive, booklet available detailing the very complex construction history of this historic building.

This room is on the top floor in the Market Hall part of the Guildhall complex. The windows on the right look out over the churchyard.
The Tudor screen with the doorway is not part of this building but has been rescued from another building in Hadleigh.

This shows the roof structure in the Market Hall. The single Crownpost can be seen with it's four curved braces at the top.
In the larger view many of the wooden pegs used in the construction of the joints can be seen.
It is interesting to think that what we see now as an attractive constructional feature was regarded, in medieval times, as just something to hold the roof up.
