Palmers Brewery, on the bank of the River Brit, started in 1794 and the metal waterwheel, forged in 1879, still turns on occasions. The bridge carries Skilling Hill Road over the river.

In South Street the Quakers were using the building on the left as far back as 1660 and the building is possibly older than that.
Beyond the Quaker's meeting house is a fine range of terraced houses.
