The Octagon Tower, Cardiff Castle.
This tower is the central tower of the three.
Also known as the Beauchamp Tower because it was built in the 15th Century by Richard Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick. It was,of course, renovated by William Burges in his own inimitable fashion.
The Tower is crowned with a Fleche - a lead covered timber spire.

The Main Spiral Staircase is in the lower part of the tower. We we not allowed access to this staircase and this picture was taken from a dooway in the Library.

Just above the Chimneypiece the Upper Level Gallery can be seen quite clearly together with the ornate panels around the walls.
