Upper and Lower Slaughter, Gloucestershire, England

This large area of water where the mill stream comes out of the mill and turns right to go through Lower Slaughter village used to be a ford but now not useable as such.
The footpath on the far side of the river goes past the mill and you can get onto the footpath to Upper Slaughter a short way beyond the mill.

Here at the Old Mill you can see the large water wheel and the bypass channel that takes the water when the wheel needs to be stopped.
The wheel would need to be stopped when maintenance was required on either the wheel or the internal mechanism.

This view is a little downstream of the mill but the Old Mill is only just around the bend.
You should be able to see, on the far side of the river, one of those little stone steps mentioned on the previous page.

This view is very near the mill where the mill outflow turns and runs along through the main part of the village.
