The Internal Courtyard looking back towards the North Range and Gatehouse. The surrounding buildings housed the Lord and his family where they lived in great splendour.
The castle's exterior was a forbidding expression of armed power but the interior resembled a luxurious residence.

The Chapel was, in the 13th Century, used for religous services but, at times, was even used for storage.
Soldiers could also use the window to monitor visitors entering the castle through the gate passage.
