The Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal, Llanfoist, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire
We caught a bus from Abergavenny Bus Station to Llanfoist and started walking up Church Lane which turned out to be steeper than I suspected. I fondly imagined that as we were going to look at a canal the ground must be fairly level but what I didn't realise was that the canal was cut part the way up the hillside of Blorenge.
However we were in very pleasant surroundings so we pressed on.

We hadn't gone very far when we came across this unusual stone stile, including the stone slab bridge over the stream, which gave access to the Churchyard.

Just before we climbed the steps up to the canal we came across this tunnel which carries the footpath, up Blorenge, under the canal in Llanfoist.
You should just be able to see the speck of light which is at the far end.

We finally reached the canal which turned out to be rather picturesque but then the Brecon and Monmouthshire Canal is known for its attractiveness.

The building on the right is the Old Llanfoist Wharf and you should be able to see an old crane (white) near the centre of the picture which used to be used for loading and unloading.
