Having driven up the Eunant Valley and turned right onto the Hellfire Pass road we are approaching the viewpoint marked on the Ordnance Survey map and it is beginning to look interesting.

The view from Hellfire Pass, Lake Vyrnwy, Mongomeryshire

We go round a left-hand bend and, suddenly, there is the view. It looks fairly dramatic in this weather but I wonder if it would have looked better on a dry sunny day.

We are not at the top yet so we keep going and stop briefly to admire this open view. There are few places to pull off this road so for this view we just stopped on the road. Luckily we didn't see another vehicle whilst we were navigating Hellfire Pass.

Mountains in the cloud, Hellfire Pass, Lake Vyrnwy, Mongomeryshire

We have reached the top and discovered that there is a large car park here. With the clouds touching the mountain tops the views are not as good as previously but interesting nevertheless. This view probably looks a lot better in good weather. The Welsh name for this pass is Bwlch y Groes (Path of the cross).
