The County of Wiltshire
The County of Wiltshire is probably known for its most famous monument - Stonehenge but another of its monuments, Avebury Stone Circle, is older and larger than Stonehenge. The city of Salisbury is the county's only city featuring Salisbury Cathedral with the tallest spire in England. The county town is the town of Trowbridge.
Wiltshire is a mainly rural landscape with the majority being on high chalk downland and most of that is on Salisbury Plain which shows evidence of Man's occupation over 5000 years or more.
