Dovedale is the last in a sequence of dales starting near Hartington with Beresford Dale. Beresford Dale leads into Wolfscote Dale. Then comes Milldale and finally Dovedale.
Dovedale itself is very popular and there is a large car park nearby which makes it very popular in good warm weather. If you don't like crowds then don't go in high season.

Ashbourne is a charming, picturesque, predominantly Georgian, market town nestling in the gently sloping Henmore valley. In the past it was the meeting point of six main coaching routes, including the London to Manchester route. This helped to raise its prominence, at the time, as a local commercial centre
This view is of Saint John's Street looking towards the church.

This is the Market Place with the market cross on the left-hand side. There are two narrow alleyways on each side of the building at the back, facing the camera, which lead into Victoria Square. Victoria Square used to be called The Shambles.
Markets are still held on Thursdays and Saturdays every week.
