Hampton Court Castle, Hope under Dinmore, Herefordshire, England
Hampton Court Castle is not a castle but a castellated country house built in 1427. It is a quadrangular courtyard house and has retained this basic form although in other ways the house has been significantly altered.
The original owner was Sir Rowland Lenthall but the estate was purchased by the noble Coningsby family in 1510 who kept it until the early 19th century.

The South Front. After being sold by the Coningsby family it had a succession of owners and was last offered for sale in 2016.
The gardens are a particular feature and the house and gardens were featured extensively in the 1970s BBC television series 'Survivors'.
Not to be confused with Hampton Court Palace in London this house is older than the London one by nearly 100 years.

The gardens, largely created by the Van Kampens (one of the more recent owners), includes the Walled Garden and covers 12 acres but including the parkland it covers 935 acres. The brick walls, which enclose the Walled Garden, are Victorian.

After looking around the first part of the Walled Garden going through this arch offers more choices as you can see from the signs. What the signs don't mention is the Dutch Garden and the Island Pavilions.
