Michaelchurch, Herefordshire
St. Michael's Church, Michaelchurch.
The astonishing interior is what makes this church so interesting. You should be able to see that all the walls have markings on them particularly the wall near the altar facing the camera. These markings are 13th century wall paintings using mostly geometric patterns and floral decoration in red and white.
The 12th century font can be seen in the foreground.

The Roman altar.
Another very interesting feature is a Roman altar which stands in the blocked north doorway. It carries a badly worn inscription that can be roughly translated as "To the god of the three ways (crossroads), Beccicus dedicates this altar".

16th and 17th century inscriptions.
On parts of the north and south walls the 13th century wall paintings have been superimposed by 16th and 17th-century black-lettered inscriptions which include the Ten Commandments.
