Norwich Cathedral, Norwich, Norfolk, England
Walking along Wensum Street towards Tombland the Erpingham Gate is the first part of the cathedral that comes into view. There is another gate, Ethelbert Gate, a little further along Tombland and either gate will take you into the cathedral close.
The building on the left showing red brick and a half-timbered upper section is the 13th Century Maid's Head hotel.

This view of the Cathedral Close, which covers 44 acres in total, is from between the Erpingham and Ethelbert Gates. The close has an attractive green, seen here, and many other buildings and paths.
The buildings at the back of the green are part of the Norwich School.

This view of the tower and spire from within the cathedral precincts shows, I think, just how impressive it looks close up. The top of the spire is 315 feet above the ground.
The detail on the tower shows very well in this light and the flying buttresses which were added in late medieval times to help support the roof can be easily seen.

This view, showing two of the four sides of the cloisters, is from inside the cloisters which were built between 1297 and 1318 and are, you may notice, two storeys high. These cloisters are second only in size to those at Salisbury Cathedral.

One of the most notable features of the Nave, one of the longest in the country, is the world renowned medieval roof bosses, of which there are over 1000, and each one is different from the rest.
