This moated medieval castle has an extraordinarily picturesque setting and was built in 1385. It is owned by the National Trust and there is an admission charge.

The castle has a large round tower at each of the four corners and a square tower defending the centre of each side.

This view shows the Postern Gate in the central tower which was one of two entrance gates.

This view is from the north-east and includes the main gatehouse. This is one of the towers to which the public have access and can climb the medieval spiral stairway to the top.

This is the impressive main gatehouse and, close up, it does feel rather intimidating.
