St. James Church dates from around 1000 AD, which makes it Anglo-Saxon, but has been much altered, starting with the Normans, since. The rather interesting font dates from the early 12th Century.

This part of the village is very near the church and Avebury Manor.

This unusual Thatched Wall is between the churchyard and Avebury Manor.

Thatched walls are normally associated with Cob (Soil, Clay and Straw) walls because if the Cobb gets wet the wall falls apart. But this wall is, apparently, stone so I can't imagine why it's thatched..

Just beyond the churchyard is the 16th Century Avebury Manor House and garden, run by the National Trust, which is open to the public at certain times.

This barn forms part of the site museum with an exhibition showing the archaeological story of Avebury including finds from the site.

There is also a small cafeteria nearby providing drinks and light lunches.
