The turntable area in the Great Hall of the National Railway Museum. There are a number of locomotives arranged round this turntable of which just five are shown.

The museum is free but the people manning the entry desks will pointedly explain that they would like you to donate £3 per adult but they won't stop you from entering if you don't donate.

This is a view across the Great Hall showing the yellow footbridge in the distance. The collection includes over 100 locomotives and almost 200 items of rolling stock.

There is a further hall, the Station Hall, displaying even more locomotives including Royal Trains, a workshop and a warehouse displaying innumerable items of railway paraphenalia.

Locomotive No. 6229 Duchess of Hamilton, National Railway Museum, York, Yorkshire, England, Great Britain

The 'Duchess of Hamilton', built in 1938, a 4-6-2 Coronation class locomotive No. 6229.

This locomotive was built in Crewe but had an identity change in December 1938 to 6220 Coronation then another identity change in March 1943 back to 6229 Duchess of Hamilton. The streamlining was removed in October 1947 and was finally withdrawn from service in February 1964.

In 1829 on the 2nd of June large crowds saw the locomotive "Agenoria" haul eight carriages with 364 passengers and four carriages with three and half tons of coal along a two mile level stretch of rails. On the second run even more coal wagons were added, but on the third run with only a few passengers a speed of eleven miles per hour was obtained.

The locomotive was named after the goddess of courage and industry.
