The Castle, Castle Rising, Norfolk, England
The Gatehouse bridge across the ditch. The top of the Gatehouse is visible above the top of the bank on the left with Amanda standing by it which gives an idea of the general scale of the earthworks. Poking above the trees in the distance on the left is the tower of St. Lawrence Church.
The distance from the top of the bank to the bottom of the ditch must be a least 80 feet. That would have taken a lot of digging.

The great entrance staircase accessed from the main entrance door in the picture above. Now that is impressive.

At the top of the Great Staircase, through the door on the left, is this small waiting room. The archway was originally the main entrance to the Great Hall but was bricked up and turned into a fireplace in the 16th century. The only way on into the Keep is now via the spiral stairway on the right.
