Avebury (2), Wiltshire
A view from the top of the rampart showing the ditch with the stone circle and village beyond. You can see the sheep taking shelter from the sun in the shade of a tree on what was a very warm day and who can blame them - I know how they felt!

More large stones and small visitors with the thatched Red Lion Inn at the back. We have no experience of this pub although I've seen a lot of comments about it and it's food - none of them complimentary.

This shows some of the stones in the interior of the circle with the outer circle visible beyond. The two small tapered stones are concrete posts to show the position of stones which are now missing.

This gives a good view of the outer circle showing the stones placed in a curve with the rampart just beyond and the people show just how large the stones are.

The Avenue, also known as the West Kennet Avenue, was originally made of around 100 pairs of prehistoric standing stones which formed a winding one and a half mile ritual link between the pre-existing monuments of Avebury and The Sanctuary.
Some of the objects visible further down are cattle not stones.
